Saint Joseph Major Seminary joyfully celebrated the Solemnity of Saint Joseph with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Ikot Ekpene, Most. Rev. Dr. Camillus Umoh. The liturgy gathered formators, seminarians, clergy, and the lay faithful in a spirit of reverence and thanksgiving.

In his homily, Bishop Umoh began by warmly greeting the entire seminary community and all present, acknowledging the significance of the feast of Saint Joseph in the life of the Church and in the formation of future priests.

He reflected deeply on the exemplary qualities of Saint Joseph, describing him as a man of profound silence who, though he spoke no recorded words in Scripture, accomplished great things through faithful action.
Drawing attention to contemporary society, the Bishop lamented that today’s world is filled with noise and empty talk, yet little meaningful action is taken. In contrast, Saint Joseph stands as a model of quiet strength and purposeful living. He noted that Saint Joseph represents that dimension of the Church that calls believers to deep contemplation, interior reflection, and attentive listening to God.

The Bishop further emphasized that Saint Joseph was a humble custodian of the divine plan of salvation. Despite being entrusted with the care of Jesus and Mary, he did not seek recognition or boast of his role. Rather, he carried out his mission with humility and obedience.
Reflecting on Joseph’s righteousness, Bishop Umoh highlighted his merciful disposition, particularly in his decision not to expose Mary to public disgrace, thereby saving her from being stoned. This act, he noted, reveals a man who overcame anger and embraced compassion and justice.

The Bishop cautioned that excessive noise, both external and internal, can ccover or cloud spiritual perception and hinder one’s ability to encounter God. He encouraged the faithful to imitate Saint Joseph by cultivating silence and prayerfulness, noting that in such a disposition, one becomes more attuned to God’s voice.

In conclusion, Bishop Umoh urged all present to adopt a life of prayer modeled after Saint Joseph, assuring them that through such a life, they would come to recognize God speaking clearly in the “dreams of their hearts.” The celebration ended on a note of spiritual renewal, inspiring the community to emulate the quiet yet powerful witness of Saint Joseph.
